Local Trap Teams Receive Boost From Hornady® Donations

Grand Island, NE – Ammunition donations from Hornady® are making it easier and less expensive for more students to participate on the trap teams at three Grand Island high schools.

Hornady recently donated 78,000 rounds of shotgun ammunition to the trap teams at Grand Island Senior High, Northwest High School and Grand Island Central Catholic. The teams have a total of 166 shooters.

This is the eighth year for the Hornady donations, which have totaled 624,000 rounds between the three schools over the life of the program.

“Hornady’s ammunition donation supports youth shooting sports throughout the community,” said John Lilly, who is in his fifth year as head coach of the Grand Island Central Catholic shooting team. “Their continued support significantly reduces cost for participants on all of the high school teams.”

He noted that the ammunition can be passed directly through the teams to participants, used to facilitate team fundraising or used to scholarship those who would otherwise not be able to participate in trap.

“All of these uses increase participation and growth of the shooting sports,” said Lilly, whose team has 17 athletes this year. “We are all very grateful for Hornady’s support!”

Lilly’s comments were great news to Jason Hornady, vice president of Hornady Manufacturing.

“At Hornady, we realize that not every student can afford to be on a shooting team,” he said. “We want everyone to have that opportunity. That’s why we’re so gratified to know our ammunition donations are allowing more students to participate – right here in our hometown!”
