Thielen used Hornady 25 cal. 138 gr. A-Tip® Match bullets in 25 Creedmoor to secure victory in the Open Division.

Grand Island, NE — Over 400 total competitors from 30 states descended on Grand Island, Nebraska, May 29th – May 31st, 2026, to battle the “undead” during the 2026 annual Zombies in the Heartland 3-Gun shooting match hosted by Hornady® and the Heartland Public Shooting Park. “Big Red Dead” was the theme for this year’s competition.

Ten competitive stages mimicking post-apocalyptic situations were featured. Professional and amateur shooters from across the country enjoyed specially developed reactive zombie targets.

"This years Zombies in the Heartland match ran incredibly well,” said Match Director, Jeremy Millard. “We are truly grateful for the competitors, the staff, the fans, and the sponsors that help make this happen. We are already looking forward to next year!” he added.

Hornady sponsored shooters Andrew Tarver, Dillen Easley, and Dylan Mertens won their respective divisions.

Tarver took 1st place in the Modified Division shooting 22 cal. 73 gr. ELD® Match bullets in his rifle and 9mm 125 gr. HAP® bullets in his pistol, that he loaded on the Hornady Lock-N-Load® AP press.

“I’m excited to win the division and represent Hornady on their home turf,” said Tarver. “The Zombie Match is a competition I look forward to every year!” he added.

Easley captured the PCC Division win shooting Hornady 9mm 125 gr. HAP bullets.

“After winning Open Division last year and that Tactical Division before that, I wanted to take a swing at the PCC division and earn the Zombies Triple Crown!” said Easley. “I couldn’t have done it without the accuracy of the HAP bullets,” he added.

Teammate Dylan Mertens won the Junior Division shooting Hornady 9mm 115 gr. XTP® American Gunner® ammunition and Hornady 22 Cal. 75 gr. BTHP Match bullets in his rifle.

“It’s an honor to represent Hornady at their 14th Annual Zombies in the Heartland Match,” said Mertens. “The ammo ran flawlessly and was vital in securing my division victory,” he added.

Grand Island, NE — Hornady proudly presented a donation of $55,030.56 to the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Disaster Relief Fund in support of ranchers impacted by the devastating wildfires that swept across Nebraska ranchland earlier this year.

The donation was presented at Hornady headquarters in Grand Island on Monday, June 1st . It was accepted by Laura Field, Executive Vice President of Nebraska Cattlemen, and Taralee Hudson, Director of Producer Relations for Nebraska Cattlemen.

Funds were raised through the “Nebraska Strong” wildfire relief t-shirt campaign, a generous contribution from Hornady Gear, and a dollar-for-dollar matching donation from Steve Hornady and Jason Hornady.

"The response to this campaign was incredible," said Jason Hornady, Vice President at Hornady. "We are grateful to everyone who purchased a shirt, shared the message, and contributed to helping Nebraska ranching families recover from these historic wildfires.

Recent wildfires have burned nearly 1 million acres of Nebraska ranchland, an area larger than the state of Rhode Island. The fires have heavily impacted the Nebraska Sandhills, one of the most productive and globally recognized beef-producing regions in the world.

The destruction extends far beyond grazing land. Ranchers have suffered significant losses including fences, hay supplies, buildings, equipment, and livestock infrastructure. Compounding the crisis, Nebraska has been enduring years of drought, making recovery even more difficult. The long-term effects of this disaster will be felt for years to come.

Hornady® Donates to GRACE Cancer Foundation and American Cancer Society

Grand Island, NE — Hornady® recently donated $35,625 to the GRACE Cancer Foundation in Grand Island, NE., with a matching amount going to the American Cancer Society for a total donation of, $71,250 split evenly between the two organizations.

Through this initiative, Hornady has now donated nearly $1.4 million over the last several years through a joint contribution to the GRACE Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society.

“It’s an honor for us to stand behind the GRACE Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society,” said Steve Hornady. “The compassion and support they show to patients, and their families is nothing short of extraordinary,” he added.

The donation was calculated using a portion of each box sold of Hornady Critical Defense® Lite ammunition in 9mm and 38 Special. Critical Defense Lite features a pink bullet tip and pink ribbon packaging to help showcase the fight against cancer.

“We personally thank the entire Hornady team for their continued support and for believing so strongly in the mission of the GRACE Cancer Foundation,” said Sarah Koch, Executive Director, GRACE. “Their generosity truly means the world to us, and more importantly, to the patients and families we serve,” she added.

The GRACE Cancer Foundation assists cancer patients and families across 37 counties in Nebraska. Help is available through several methods, such as gas cards, assistance with medical bills, household expenses, and more.

The American Cancer Society’s mission is to free the world from cancer by funding and conducting research, sharing expert information, supporting patients, and spreading the word about prevention.
