It is with great pride that Hornady receives the Guns & Ammo award for 2016 Ammunition of the Year for their Precision Hunter™ line of high-performance, match accurate hunting ammunition.

The 2016 award winners were chosen by a select group of staff and contributors from Guns & Ammo magazine. The awards were judged based on merits of performance, proven long-term durability, product value and availability to the consumer.

Doppler radar was used to test and then revolutionize the bullet performance in Precision Hunter™ ammunition. Loaded with one of the most sophisticated projectiles ever, the ELD-X® bullet with its Heat Shield® tip also opened the door for a new drag coefficient-based ballistic calculator called “Four Degrees of Freedom,” or 4DOF™. The Hornady® 4DOF™ Ballistic Calculator provides trajectory solutions based on projectile Drag Coefficient (not ballistic coefficient) along with the exact physical modeling of the projectile and its mass and aerodynamic properties. Additionally, it calculates the vertical shift a bullet experiences as it encounters a crosswind; referred to as aerodynamic jump.

Guns & Ammo presents awards in six categories: handguns, rifles, shotguns, ammunition, suppressors and optics. Manufacturers, sales and advertising representatives were not invited into the selection process.
