Hornady® Manufacturing was honored with the Patriot Award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), during an awards ceremony Dec. 27 at the Hornady factory. The ESGR, an office of the Department of Defense, bestows the Patriot Award to American employers who take significant steps to establish and maintain a business culture that supports former and active military members.

Steve Hornady, company president, accepted the award on behalf of all Hornady employees. "Everyone at Hornady is proud to support those who put their lives on the line for the freedom and safety of our country," he said. "Receiving the nationally-recognized Patriot Award for the efforts we take to support our military is a true honor."

Hornady® Manufacturing currently employs more than 60 veterans, and approximately 10 active members of the National Guard or military reserves. National Guardsmen and women are required to undergo 39 training days per year, making supportive employees especially crucial. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, 6,500 members of the Nebraska National Guard and Reserves have been deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan for tours lasting 12 months or longer. Employee support during extended periods of leave is crucial for national security, according to the ESGR.

Lance Zobel, director of supply chain management at Hornady® Manufacturing, and a 20-year member of the National Guard, said the company makes it a point to honor military and veteran members of its rapidly expanding workforce. "Supporting and appreciating their service and sacrifice makes a tremendous positive impact upon military members and their families," said Zobel. "The Hornady family is well deserving of this national honor, not only for what they've done here in the factory, but throughout the community as well."
