Hornady® Over the Hill Gang members, Robert Schanen, 64, of Brookfield, Wisc., and Jerome Van Treeck, 66, of Racine, Wisc. won the 2013 Vintage Sniper Rifle Team Match, held July 31st during the National Rifle Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio. The duo used Hornady® factory 30-06 M1 Garand Match™ ammunition loaded with 168 gr A-MAX® bullets to win with a score of 394-13x.

The match features a two-man team format, with each alternating as shooter and spotter, and firing 10 rounds at both 300 and 600 yards. Match rifles were either original or replica rifles issued through the Korean War.

All shooting takes place in the prone position, and winners receive a custom trophy designed as a memorial to Hornady® founder, J.W. Hornady. Hornady® supports the annual match by producing Vintage Match™ ammunition in 6.5 x 55mm, 303 British, 7.62 x 54R, 8 X 57mm, as well as 30-06 M1 Garand Match™ ammunition for shooters competing in the Vintage Sniper Rifle Team Match.

The Vintage Sniper Rifle Team Match was the brainchild of Dave Emary, Chief Ballistic Scientist at Hornady® Manufacturing, who wanted to create an official shooting format for the vintage sniper rifles still in circulation. The match was officially added to the Camp Perry lineup in 2011 with a few dozen competitors, and quickly grew in popularity. The 2013 match drew 227 teams, with two shooters per team.
