2012 Rocky Mountain 3-Gun Championship

Team Hornady® members posted strong performances at the 2012 JP Enterprises Rocky Mountain 3-Gun Championship, August 11-12, 2012 at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico. The physically challenging, nine-stage match was set in the hills and ravines of a mountainous area, offering competitors glimpses of wildlife roaming in the background.

Tate Moots won first place in the He-Man Scope division shooting Hornady® 308 Win 155 grain TAP® ammunition in his rifle, and Hornady® 230 grain FMJ RN in his 45 auto pistol. "Hornady TAP ammo is perfect because of its accuracy," said Moots, "as well as its consistent velocity for the long range targets."

Barry Dueck finished second in the He-Man Scope division, shooting Hornady® 308 Win 178 grain BTHP Match™ ammunition in his rifle. "This match had more long range rifle targets than any 3-Gun match in recent memory," said Dueck. "I shot Hornady 230 grain HAP bullets in my 45 caliber pistol. The bullets shot so well I didn't think twice about choosing my pistol on the stage that allowed either shotgun or pistol. I knew Hornady bullets had the precise accuracy needed to make all the shots."

Rob Romero finished second in the He-Man or Heavy Metal division shooting Hornady® 155 grain A-MAX® bullets in his 308 Win rifle. Commenting on the bullet's performance, Romero said, "The flat-shooting 155 grain A-MAX made it easier to hit longer targets while shooting iron sights. I didn't have to dial up as often, but rather held over the top due to reduced drop." Romero shot Hornady® 230 grain RN in his 45 caliber pistol. "It's a very accurate and reliable round, functioning flawlessly and feeding consistently despite the dry and dusty conditions," he said.

Kelly Neal finished second in the Limited Iron division, shooting Hornady® 223 Rem 55 grain V-MAX™ in his rifle, and Hornady® 9mm Steel Match® in his pistol. "I used V-MAX due to their flat trajectory and accuracy which was needed for the distances of the targets," said Neal. "Hornady HAP bullets were particularly accurate on long-range targets."

Jared Milinazzo took sixth in the Limited Scoped division, and Dave Neth was eighth to round out the team's performance.
