2012 MGM Ironman

The MGM Ironman has earned its title as the "Mother of all 3-Gun competitions." Held June 3-9, 2012 at the Parma Rod and Gun Club in Parma, Idaho, the physically grueling match featured 11 stages that require competitors to shoot from a variety of positions and scenarios. Shots range from a few feet to more than 800 yards, and feature a zip-line, 30-foot slide, low-light tunnel and high round counts. Team Hornady® survived and thrived to bring home plenty of metal for the trophy case.

Michael Voigt repeated last year's performance to win the Open Division, shooting Hornady® 6.5 Creedmoor ammunition in his long-range rifle, 9mm 125 grain HAP® bullets in his pistol, and 223 Rem 75 grain Match™ ammunition in his rifle. "The Ironman is the equivalent of three other matches combined," said Voigt. "Knowing I can rely on Hornady ammo at every stage is a winning factor in my performance."

Barry Dueck won his third consecutive Heavy Optics division title, shooting Hornady® 308 caliber 178 grain BTHP Match™ bullets in his rifle, 9mm 147 grain XTP® bullets in his pistol, and 6.5 Creedmoor 140 grain A-MAX® ammunition in his long-range rifle. "The 178 grain Hornady Match ammo was a huge advantage on the spinner targets," said Dueck. "I could hit them hard and spin them with as little as two hits!"

Trip McIngvale took second in the Limited class and earned third place in the Tactical Scoped division which was shot later in the week, shooting Hornady® 223 Rem 75 grain Steel Match® in his rifle, 9mm 125 grain Steel Match® in his pistol, and 308 Win 178 grain BTHP Superformance® Match™ in his long-range rifle.

Travis Gibson also took second place in the punishing Trooper class, which requires competitors to carry everything for the entire match, with automatic disqualification for anyone using something they didn't pack from the start. Gibson shot Hornady® Steel Match® ammunition.

Other notable Team Hornady® finishes in the Tactical Scoped division include Katie Harris (1st Lady) and John Paul Gangle (1st Senior).
