Making the most of their home field advantage, Team Hornady won the Open and Limited Divisions of the 2011 USPSA Area 3 Regional Handgun Championship, held August 11-14, at the Heartland Public Shooting Park in Grand Island, Nebraska. Area 3 is the Central Midwest region of the USPSA; one of eight shooting regions in the country. More than 300 of the nation's top competitors traveled to Grand Island from 40 states to demonstrate their best talents.

Known for taking competitors out of their comfort zone, match director and stage designer Sherwyn Greenfield created stages that put skills to the test. "I enjoy designing a stage that will be intricate yet deceivingly easy," said Greenfield. "It forces competitors to concentrate and makes them work to execute the stage properly."

Title defender Max Michel, won the Open Division, shooting Hornady 9mm 125 grain HAP bullets in all 14 stages. "The amazing accuracy and reliability of HAP bullets make them perfect for competition," said Michel. "They always deliver winning performances."

Fellow Team Hornady member, Nic Neel, also shot Hornady 9mm 125 grain HAP bullets to finish second overall in the Open Division. "Hornady bullets allowed me to go one-for-one on four large poppers at 43 yards and win stage one," said Neel. "This was by far my best finish at an Area match."

Blake MiquezBlake Miguez won the Limited Division with Hornady 40 caliber 200 grain XTP bullets. "I can depend on the XTP at a match of this level because it is consistent at the chronograph and accurate on the range," explained Miguez. "This competition's stages were especially challenging and well thought-out, with props, moving targets and different shooting positions."
