2014 Superstition Mountain Mystery 3‑Gun

Team Hornady® won multiple divisions during the 2014 Superstition Mountain Mystery 3-Gun match, March 28-30, 2014 at the Rio Salado Sportsman Club in Mesa, Ariz. Turning in stellar performances, team members brought their game faces to the desert, and demonstrated the accuracy of Hornady® ammo at each of the match's 11 stages. Now in its 19th year, the match adopted a spy movie theme and drew 351 competitors from across the country.

Kelly Neal (shown above) won the Heavy Metal Iron Division shooting Hornady® 155-grain Steel Match® in his 308 Win rifle, and Hornady® 230-grain hand-loaded FMJs in his 45 auto pistol. "Both were reliable and über-accurate," said Neal. "In this match your ammo must function or you lose."

Patrick Kelley won the Tactical Limited Division shooting Hornady® 55- and 75-grain Steel Match® in his rifle. Kelley credited the dependability of Hornady® ammo for his win. "Hornady Steel Match ammo represents the best value in truly match-grade ammo," he said. "It allows me to focus on the job at hand, which is shooting accurately at speed."

Winning the Heavy Metal Optics Division, Scott McGregor delivered an impressive performance shooting Hornady® 230-grain FMJ bullets in his pistol, and Hornady® 308 Win 155-grain BTHP Steel Match® in his rifle. McGregor said, "Hornady ammo instills confidence. Today's outcome was proof that it will work when you need it."

Finishing in the top five behind McGregor were Tate Moots and Sean Dexter, both shooting Hornady® XTP® bullets in their pistols, and Hornady® 155-grain in their .308 rifles.

Outgunning a deep field of 179 competitors in the Tactical Scope Optics Division, Dave Neth and Keith Garcia took third and fourth place. Neth also topped the Law Enforcement category.

Maggie Reese won High Lady in the Open Division for the third time. Reese shot both Hornady® 75-grain HPBT Match™ ammo in her rifle for targets out to 399 yards, and Hornady® 55-grain V-MAX® 223 bullets for up-close targets. Shooting Hornady® 9mm 115-grain HAP® bullets in her pistol, Reese said, "With the diversity of targets at each stage, I knew I could depend on Hornady ammo for accurate shot placement every time."

Focused and staying on track, Jerry Miculek and Michael Voigt finished in the top five of the Open Division.

Dianna Liedorff won High Lady in the Tactical Optics Division shooting Hornady® 9mm 124-grain FMJ-RN bullets in her pistol, and Hornady® 223 Rem 55-grain FMJ for close targets. Shooting new guns this year, Liedorff added, "Knowing Hornady 75 grain BTHP Match ammo would perform in my rifle for those long distance targets was critical to my performance."

Match Director, Dan Furbee, said this year's creative stage design and level of competition were unheralded. "Whether rattlesnakes were catching some sun on the range, or inquisitive rabbits looked on, the cactus desert floor provided a beautiful backdrop to a match that continues to mystify and draw competitors."
