Jessie Harrison Wins Steel Challenge

Jessie Harrison shot Hornady XTP bullets to earn the crown as Ladies Steel Master champion during the 2011 Steel Challenge World Speed Shooting Championships (WSSC), August 18-20, in Piru, Calif. WSSC is considered the crown jewel of the shooting tour, and this year's event rounded out a 30-year run in Piru. The 2012 event will move to Frostproof, Fla., drawing competitors from around the globe to test their speed, agility and accuracy as they vie for the title of world's greatest shooter.

Harrison set a new "Smoke & Hope" Ladies Open Stage world record, claiming six out of eight total stage records. Wiping out the old record of 9.56 to shoot the stage, Harrison posted an impressive 9.38. Winning the .22 Rimfire Open division with a new world record time of 76.60, she went on to win the Limited division with a time of 109.68 and celebrated her run by winning the Ladies Open Division with a time of 95.60.

Harrison shot Hornady 115 grain 9mm XTP bullets in the Open and Limited divisions. "It's the most accurate bullet I've found, and it works so well with the load I've developed," she said. "I like that it has low recoil, yet it's soft enough for steel targets." She also noted the historic significance of Piru, adding, "The people who volunteer here run a safe match. I have wonderful memories having won this title three times." The 2011 event marks the second time in Steel Challenge history that the same person has won all three divisions at the match.
