Zombies in the Heartland Event Draws Masses

May 26, 2015

"MOLON LABE," meaning "Come and Take Them," is the theme for the fourth annual Zombies in the Heartland: Pandemic 2015. This match, hosted by Hornady Manufacturing, is sold out for the fourth consecutive year. The three-day, three-gun competition will take place from May 28-31 at the Heartland Public Shooting Park.

Ten competitive stages and five side stages mimicking post-apocalyptic situations will be featured. These stages have titles such as "Disaster Area" and "Tomb of the Unknown."

The registration limit is determined ahead of time to keep participants from waiting in lines. In 2014, nearly 500 competitors from 26 states attended. Although the event mainly appeals to younger audiences, it also attracts shooters of all levels looking for a different experience or challenging competition. Prizes totaling $250,000 will be distributed, and every shooter who participates will have the opportunity to claim a prize.

This year, the Amateur Division is non-competitive, so it will no longer have capacity and firearms configuration rules, and prizes in this division will be based on random drawings. This creates a low-key, fun way to shoot for the experience, not the trophies.

Pandemic 2015 has over 90 sponsors including shooting and outdoor industry manufacturers and suppliers, as well as local businesses. In addition, a number of record-setting professional shooters will be at the match, including Jerry Miculek, Jessie Duff and Doug Koenig.

"This event is a unique and fun way for shooting enthusiasts to test their skills and have fun doing it," said Jason Hornady, Vice President Hornady Manufacturing. "It's a boost to our local economy as well. Many of the competitors and spectators are spending several days in Grand Island and supporting local restaurants, shopping areas and gas stations."
