The Vintage Sniper Rifle Match is the CMP's newest shooting competition, and is designed to include M1D, Gibbs 1903A4, and other vintage sniper rifles in circulation that previously lacked an official shooting format. Replicating conditions that skilled long-range military marksmen faced, the match featured a two-man team format, with each alternating as shooter and spotter, and firing 10 rounds at both 300 and 600 yards. Original match or replica sniper rifles issued through the Korean War were allowed, with original, replica or commercially compatible scopes.

Hornady provided Match ammunition in 6.5 X 55mm, 303 British, 7.62 X 54R, to go along with its excellent 30-06 M1 Garand Match ammunition. All were available to shooters through the CMP.
