The annual pilgrimage west occurred this past weekend when over three hundred of the nation's top 3-gun shooters headed to the Rio Salado Sportsman Club in Mesa, Arizona. The Team Hornady presence was strong enough that when the last stage was shot, Team Hornady members won three of the five divisions represented.
Newcomer to Team Hornady, Clint Upchurch from Inman, South Carolina, won the Open Division using Hornady 60 grain V-MAX bullets in his 223 Rem rifle and Hornady 124 grain XTP in his 38 Super Comp. Clint commented on his overall performance saying, "This was my first time competing at SMM 3-Gun match; winning the Open Division was a huge personal accomplishment. I was able to concentrate on my performance and I approached each stage with confidence knowing the accuracy of Hornady bullets would deliver a winning performance."
Fellow team members, Michael Voigt finished second in the Men's Open Division and Maggie Reese finished second in the Ladies Open Division– both using Hornady 223 Rem. 75 grain Steel Match for their rifles and Hornady 9mm 115 grain XTP for their pistols. Voigt said, "I use Hornady ammunition because essentially, they're absolutely reliable and accurate. I can't load any better!" Maggie added, "The SMM 3-Gun match is the first match of the year. It's the proving ground for your equipment and how it works and Hornady bullets provide me with that reliability factor."
Another Team Hornady win was by Adam Popplewell of Ponder, Texas, winning the Heavy Metal Scoped Division using Hornady 155 grain Steel Match for his 308 rifle and Hornady 200 grain XTP for his 45 pistol. Commenting on the match, Adam said, "This was a challenging technical match with wide open targets which required more mental focus than others. I didn't have to think about my guns not cycling the ammo– with Hornady, it's always there."
Rounding out the Team's performance at Superstition Mountain Mystery 3-Gun event was Kelly Neal winning the Tactical Limited Division. Kelly used Hornady 55 grain V-MAX for his 223 rifle and Hornady 125 HAP Steel Match for his 9mm pistol. Visibly pleased with the performance, Kelly said, "Both loads are utterly reliable– all I have to do is focus on my shooting."
