Take two strong USPSA competitors from Louisiana shooting Hornady® ammo and you wind up with Blake Miguez and Max Michel dominating the 2012 USPSA Area 6 Championship. Held at the Universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof, Florida, Miguez won the Limited Division and Michel won his first Single Stack Division, April 22, 2012.
Having won this match several times, Miguez shot Hornady® 40 caliber 200 grain XTP® projectiles, commenting, "I trust Hornady ammo to always be consistent and accurate and it's what I've come to count on."
Shooting the Level 3 match, Michel shot Hornady® 230 grain HAP® ammo in his new Sig 1911 MAX pistol, adding, "I like shooting Hornady 230 grain HAP, because it's incredibly soft in recoil and extremely accurate while smooth feeding in the chamber."
Utilizing classic paper targets, poppers and plates, this year's 12 stages were set up with traditional USPSA combination classic and metric targets with one third of the targets being steel.
Other members of Team Hornady® traveled down to Liberty Hill, Texas and competed in the 2012 Texas Multi-Gun Championship. They finished in the top 4% of registered shooters.
Tate Moots finished second in the Heavy Scoped Division, shooting Hornady® 308 155 grain TAP® in his rifle and Hornady® 9mm 125 grain Steel Match® in his pistol. Moots observed, "Both choices of ammo performed accurately at distance and burned down the drag race stages."
Following up in the Heavy Scoped Division was Benny Hill in fourth place. Rob Romero finished 1st in the World War II division which required shooters to use an M1 Garand, 1911 45 auto and a pump action shotgun.
Kelly Neal finished fifth in the Tactical Division shooting Hornady® 75 grain BTHP Steel Match® in his rifle and Hornady® 9mm 125 grain HAP® Steel Match® in his pistol. Neal commented, "Between the long range stages and the cross winds, I knew both loads would be the most wind resistant and reliable and they did not let me down."
Keith Garcia turned in a strong performance, finishing eighth in the Tactical Division. Garcia said, "I was looking for loads that would be extremely reliable and accurate so I shot Hornady 223 Superformance® 53 grain V-MAX™ for the short range rifle stages, and Hornady Superformance® 75 grain for the long range targets." Garcia added, "In my pistol, I shot Hornady 9mm 115 grain XTP® for its quick cycling ability."
Michael Voigt (10th), Patrick Kelley (12th), Clint Upchurch (15th) and Travis Gibson (17th) also finished near the top of the Tactical division that boasted more than 300 shooters.
